Biography


2013:  Played in 29 contests, which included a start at right field... earned three walks and touched home plate eight times... finished with a perfect 4-for-4 tally in stolen bases.

2012:  Earned 12 collegiate starts as designated hitter during her sophomore campaign... also saw action in right field... enjoyed one multiple hit game with a pair of shots versus IUPUI... also registered a two-game hitting streak at one point in the season... earned her first RBI in a key win over TTU... touched home plate 11 times... went 1-for-3 in stolen bases... put down five sac bunts.

2011:  Saw action in 33 games as a true freshman... mostly as a pinch runner where she touched home plate 10 times... ended earning the winning run as EIU downed Fairleigh Dickinson at the Rebel Spring Break games as the Panthers went 8-0 on the week to open up a program-best 17-game winning streak... ended the year with a 3-for-6 mark in stolen bases.

HS:  Multiple letterwinner for coach Karen Karch at nearby Charleston HS, playing both softball and volleyball... senior co-captain of the softball squad.

PERSONAL:  ‘Kay Jo’ is an English major... daughter of Glen & Teri Pruett... No. 1 sports highlight was “earning the No. 19 position at nationals age 14U”... credits her father for having the biggest influence in her sports career, “because he’s always there to push me to go harder and never lets me forget how to be a true athlete."

OFF THE FIELD WITH KAYLIE:  Chose to come to EIU “because it’s close to my family and I’ve always watched EIU athletics since I’m also from Charleston”... besides softball she enjoys playing volleyball... her hidden talent is singing, “I’m not sure if I’m good at it, but people say I’m decent, plus I love to write as well”... currently driving a 2001 Ford Explorer... favorite meal is steak with country bobs, but dislikes onions and/or mushrooms... feels EIU has the advantage over other OVC and instate schools “because EIU isn’t as big as the other schools which makes getting to know people easier... not only that, but the people here actually care about you”... favorite tv shows include ‘Scrubs’ and ‘Friends’... names of her pets are ‘shadow’ and ‘Patches’, her two seven-year-old cats... has already enjoyed taking Professor Collins’ journalism class... since coming to EIU she has learned “that you have to stop and have fun every once in a while”... her favorite building on campus is the Rec Center, “it’s my favorite place to go when I need a break”... if she could bring anything from home to EIU it would be “some ofthe firends I made in high school that have gone to other places”... her advice to a younger athlete is “to dream big, you have to work hard... nothing comes easy here... collegiate athleticswill challenge you and if you’re not prepared to take on those challenges along with the the criticisms that come with the honor of being a college student-athlete, you will not succeed”... her favorite quote comes from Lance Armstrong -- “pain is temporary... it may last a minute, or an hour, or a day, or a year, but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place... if I quit, however, it lasts forever”... one of her personal goals while at EIU are “I would like to become a better athlete while also becoming a better person through my studies here at EIU.”
