Biography

SENIOR (2009-10): Baker played in 17 games and started the senior day win against Tennessee State… scored a season-high eight points in the home wins against UT Martin and Tennessee State… was 4-of-7 from the field in only eight minutes in the UTM victory, helping the EIU bench score 40 points… played a season-high 15 minutes in the WNIT game at Marquette… tallied five points and three rebounds in 13 minutes in the home loss to Illinois State… saw action in three of the four postseason games… shot 52 percent (12-of-23) in home games… was 7-of-11 from the field in February, averaging 4.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
JUNIOR (2008-09): OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll... Baker played in nine games… connected on field goals in wins against Savannah State and Tennessee State (at home)… also blocked a shot and pulled down a pair of rebounds in the TSU victory… had an assist and trip to the free throw line in the win against Mississippi Valley State… saw action in seven of the 15 home games.
SOPHOMORE (2007-08): She played in nine games… as EIU’s lone double-figure scorer, registered a career-high 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting in just 14 minutes in the win against Illinois Tech… keyed EIU’s regular-season home win against Tennessee State, scoring all nine of her points (on 4-of-8 shooting) during a two-minute stretch in the first half… also collected a season-high six rebounds in both aforementioned victories… recorded a field goal, three rebounds and a steal against Indiana State… scored all of her points in home games, averaging 4.7 points per game at Lantz Arena while shooting 55 percent from the field… also went 4-of-4 at the free throw line at home… posted three-point plays vs. TSU and IIT.
FRESHMAN (2006-07): She played in 20 games… nearly recorded a double-double while posting season-highs in points (12) and rebounds (9) in the win over Illinois-Springfield… her best effort in an OVC game came in the win at Austin Peay, scoring six points to go along with four rebounds… also played solid defense against the Lady Govs’ top post player with Rachel Galligan on the bench in foul trouble… scored a basket and pulled down three rebounds in the win over Tennessee State… blocked a shot at Xavier.
HIGH SCHOOL: Marie was a four-year letter-winner for coach Mike Nocella and Dana McNeil… also lettered twice in volleyball… 2006 Mid-Suburban League and Mount Prospect Player of the Year… 2006 all-state by the Daily Herald and Illinois Basketball Coaches Association… three-time all-area, all-conference and team MVP honoree… three-time Daily Herald Player of the Week... IBCA Leadership Award… Senior Female Class Leader 2006… voted Best Female Athlete at PHS as a senior… set career rebounds and blocks records at PHS… Prospect went 24-6 and was MSL East Division and regional champs in 2004… honor roll student… also played for the Illinois Hustle AAU team and in the Loyola Summer League.
PERSONAL: No. 1 sports highlight was scoring her first collegiate basket off an assist from teammate Maggie Kloak; “We were both so excited we hugged at halfcourt like two kids at Disneyland”… her mother has been a major influence on her sports career because “she has always been my personal cheerleader and best friend; without her believing in me everyday, I would be lost”… credits her father for being “my first coach and teaching me to love the game”… most admires Scottie Pippen because “although Jordan got all the glory, Scottie never had a sour moment even when he was overlooked”… her godfather Gary Les ran track and cross country at Northwestern… daughter of Scott and Sue Baker… MAJOR: Family and Consumer Sciences with a Teacher’s Certification.
