Biography
2009: In her final season as a Panther she earned her second career Offensive Player of the Year Award, alongside newcomer Lauren Doyle... played in nearly ever game before a late season-ending injury versus Illinois prematurely sidelined her playing days in an EIU uniform... tied her single-game best runs over 20-yards total in the Homecoming weekend victory over Missouri... over the course of her career she has notched her name in the Panther record books nine times for single-season marks... which ended up placing career bests for total points and trys, both runnerup for all-time highs at 445 and 89, respectively... also finished second best for career runs over 20-yards with 60 total.
2008: Crystal topped, or tied, personal highs as a junior in four stat categories, including earning eight solo tackles vs. Iowa State... missed only one game on the season... twice scored six trys, first in EIU’s romp of Ball State and again in the Panthers’ 100-0 win at Purdue... is now listed over 25 times in the EIU record books in a variety of statistical categories...
2007: Normally an offensive threat, Crystal finished the season by setting four single-game personal bests on the defensive end of the game... notched six solo tackles in the second Illinois contest and four assisted tackles in the first meeting with the Illini... besides playing in every game, she also scored at least one try in seven of those contests... ....
2006: Crystal earned Offensive Player of the Year Award, along with sophomore Samantha Manto... earned the award due to setting a new EIU record for trys in a season (30)... plus her 18 scampers for more than 20 yards was second best on the season... defensively she had 19 tackles, 15 of which were unassisted... her best game came against Loyola (Chicago), where she ran in eight trys, for 40 points... also a member of the Panther track & field squad where she runs sprints and throws the javelin....
HS: Three-sport athlete at Pana HS... lettered all four seasons in volleyball, basketball and track & field... member of volleyball and basketball squads that won conference and regional championships... Crystal was a three-time IHSA track & field participant, competing in sprints, relays and the triple jump....
PERSONAL: Majoring in kinesiology and sports studies, while minoring in community and health studies... daughter of the late Ron Jones & Cathy Jones... has been named to the EIU Dean’s LIst three times and earned the Presidential Award and OVC Academic Medal of Honor in the process... also a member of the Panther track and field unit... competing in sprints....
FUN FACTS: The St. Louis Cardinals are Crystal’s favorite professional sports club... enjoys eating pasta and chicken, but dislikes spinach... lists Friends, Scrubs and That 70’s Show as her favorite tv shows... the name of her cat is ‘Marty’... favorite cities are St. Louis and New Orleans... enjoys running, reading, being outside, going to the lake, and hanging out with friends... since coming to EIU she has learned “to relax and have fun”... chose to come to EIU “to follow in the footsteps of my sister, Denise, who was a member of the EIU track and field team”... her favorite building on campus is Lantz... her goal is graduate from EIU with cum laude honors....
