Biography
EIU (2008-09): Juliana posted a 10-9 singles record and was one of two players on the squad to finish with a better than .500 record in singles play... she shined at No. 3 singles going 7-4 and 5-4 in the OVC... started the season at No. 5 singles and, by season’s end, put a strangle hold on the No. 3 singles spot... went 7-8 in doubles play posting a 7-4 record with Cara Huck... won four straight doubles matches with Huck....
HIGH SCHOOL: Earned a national ranking as high as No. 3 for 18-and-under players in Brazil.... PERSONAL: Plans on majoring in business... her parents have been the biggest influence on her playing career, “because they introduced me to the sport of tennis”... daughter of Nicolas & Monica Frey Koiv....
FUN STUFF: ‘Juju” chose EIU “because I liked the size of the campus”... also enjoys playing basketball... she is fluent in three languages... doesn’t have a car yet, because she still hasn’t learned how to drive... coming to EIU has helped her “learn to speak better English”... her white lab is named ‘Money’... her advice to a younger athlete is “practice hard and make as much effort every day”... her own personal idiom to live by is “believe in yourself”... enjoys eating Japanese food, but doesn’t care too much for green beans or liver... her personal goal to achieve while at EIU is to “earn a good GPA”....
BLACKBURN SAYS: “Juliana had some key wins for us last year, playing in a lot of tight matches against some very good players in our conference... I think in this her sophomore year, she has an even better sense of what she needs to do on the court and has gained a lot of confidence, which I think can lead her to an even stronger season in 2010.”
