Position: Assistant Volleyball Coach
Years at EIU: 3rd season (hired April, 2015)
Alma Mater: Cedarville University, 2000
With over 15 years in the volleyball coaching ranks, Peter Green was hired as the EIU assistant coach in April of 2015, joining former colleague, and new Panther head coach, Samantha Wolinski's staff. The 2016 season will be the second for Green in the Eastern Illinois program.
Green will enter his third year as an assistant coach of the EIU volleyball program during the 2017 season.
During his second season as an assistant, Green continued to work with the EIU defensive line and helped improve the Panthers' block per set average to 2.35 which was third-best in the league. Green had a pair of Panthers finish within the top-10 in the conference for blocks per set.
In 2015, Green helped lead the Panthers to the top hitting mark in the conference at .227 and the fifth-best block per set ratio at 1.87.
Wolinski and Green previously worked alongside one another as assistants at Mississippi State in 2014, where he trained the middle blockers and handled scouting and video analysis duties.
"Peter and I had the chance to work together last year at Mississippi State and we just built a solid rapport together," said Wolinski. "Having the opportunity to have Peter join me here at Eastern was an absolute no-brainer as he brings a stellar work ethic and an excellent skill training set with him to EIU, especially in regard to our blocking schemes and what we will try to accomplish offensively.
"We are both excited to make EIU a consistent power in the OVC year in and year out," she added.
His assistant duties at Eastern will include working with the Panther blockers, middles and outside attackers on the court, in addition to his off-court recruiting, video, stat analysis and summer camp work.
During his season with the Bulldogs, Green helped oversee the third AVCA All-American in MSU volleyball history, while also helping the Bulldogs improve their statistic numbers in a variety of areas. With help from Green, the Bulldogs finished with a number of wins, including a thrilling upset win against LSU at Newell-Grissom.
Before coming to MSU, Green was most recently a volunteer assistant at Virginia after having been a coach in the high school and collegiate ranks since 2000.
At Virginia, Green assisted in the turnaround of the Cavaliers program, as he helped UVA improve from last place in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 9-22 record to a 17-13 mark and fifth place tie in the league standings in 2013. Green was responsible for middle blocker training, while also handling scouting and video analysis.
Before taking the volunteer assistant position at Virginia, Green spent one season as an assistant at VCU, where he also was responsible for the middle blockers, opponent scouting and video analysis, while also working with recruiting. Green's leadership helped the Rams finish 25-6 and third in the A-10 Conference. He was also the position coach for the A-10 Regional Rookie of the Year in 2012
Prior to that gig, Green spent four years as the head coach at Chowan University, where he led the Hawks to back-to-back Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) conference titles in 2009 and 2010, the first in Chowan history, while finishing runner-up in the conference in 2011.
Green was named the 2011 CIAA Coach of the Year and mentored both the 2010 and 2011 CIAA Player of the Year and the 2009 and 2011 CIAA Rookie of the Year. Overall, Green finished with a 99-42 record, all without a coaching staff to assist him.
Prior to taking the head job at Chowan, he was a part-time assistant at Randolph-Mason College. He also led several club squads and got his start as the head boys varsity and girls junior varsity volleyball coach at Fredericksburg Christian High School.
Green graduated from Cedarville University in 2000 with a double major in small business management and management information systems, while also earning additional minors in history and religious studies.
