CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois baseball's Mike Hoekstra was solid in his summer league debut for the Lima Locos of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, earning a win Wednesday (June 16) with 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball in the Locos' victory against Hamilton.

Lima picked up its first official victory of the summer wood bat season Wednesday behind Hoekstra's quality start. The EIU right-hander surrendered only four hits (all singles) and one walk. Morehead State's Andrew Deeds provided some run support with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate, driving in a pair of runs thanks to a double and a triple.

Hoekstra's Lima Locos take on Nick Priessman's Cincinnati Steam Thursday (June 17) in Cincinnati.

Entering the College World Series, Hoekstra continues to lead the nation in fewest walks per nine innings pitched. He issued only five walks in 67 innings pitched this spring, setting an EIU Division I era (1982-present) record in the process. His 7.8 strikeout-to-walk ratio was easily the best on the 2010 Panther pitching staff.

In the Chicagoland area, Dillon Roark is off a good start this summer with the Beecher Muskies of the Chicago Suburban Baseball League. The EIU right-hander has yet to give up an earned run in 11 innings pitched over three appearances. He earned a victory Sunday (June 13) with 5 2/3 shutout innings in Beecher's win against the USA Patriots. Tom Kimbro and Brad Schweigert are also playing for the Muskies this summer.

In Minor League Baseball, Brett Nommensen extended his current hitting streak to seven consecutive games with a base hit Wednesday (June 16) in the Bowling Green Hot Rods' loss at the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate). He also walked and scored twice. Nommensen is now batting .400 (14-for-35) over his last 10 games and has hit safely in 10 of the last 11.

Also in the Midwest League, Tyler Kehrer struck out eight of the 21 batters he faced over four innings of relief in the Cedar Rapids Kernels' loss to the Beloit Snappers (Minnesota Twins affiliate) Wednesday.
