Eastern Illinois men's soccer returned to its conference tournament for the first time since the 2008 season as the Panthers qualified for the 2016 Summit League Tournament.
The Panthers were the No. 4 seed in the field after winning a three-way tiebreaker to advance to the post season event. EIU would fall in the semifinals to No. 1 seed Omaha, 3-1.
It was the first time EIU had advanced to a conference tournament since the 2008 season when EIU played as a member of the Missouri Valley Conference for men's soccer. EIU rejoined the Summit League in 2011 after playing in the league from 1983-95 when it was known as the Mid-Continent Conference. EIU made the inaugural Mid-Continent Conference Tournament in 1994.
During the season four Panthers earned All-Summit League honors while two players were named to the All-Tournament Team. Jonathan Huerta and Marcus Menniti were named to the All-Tournament team for EIU. Huerta, Alex Castaneda, and Anton Olsson were all named to the Summit League All-Newcomer team. Goalkeeper Mike Novotny was named a second team all-league selection.
