Mack Smith from Eastern Illinois men's basketball has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after helping the Panthers split a pair of home games last weekend.

On Saturday against Tennessee Tech, Smith set the EIU freshman single game scoring record as he finished with 31 points as the Panthers picked up a 79-71 win over the Golden Eagles. For the weekend Smith averaged 22.5 points per game shooting 57 percent from the field and 54 percent from 3-point range (7-of-13). He was perfect from the free throw line in six attempts. In addition Smith averaged 3.5 rebounds per game while handing out four assists and blocking one shot.

Smith has now scored in double figures in six straight games winning OVC Freshman of the Week honors during two of the last three weeks. For the season he is averaging 10.5 points per game while knocking down 32 3-pointers.Â

EIU returns to action this Thursday playing at SIUE at 7 p.m. before returning home to host Austin Peay on Saturday. At Saturday's home doubleheader Fredbird, the mascot of the St. Louis Cardinals, will be at the game taking pictures and handing out a couple of sets of tickets to a Cardinals / Cubs game in May. Â
