Jimmy Garoppolo from football and Mike Hesslau from men's cross country have been named the EIU student-athletes of the week.

Garoppolo helped the Panthers improve to 2-0 on the season passing for 440 yards and four touchdowns in EIU's double overtime win at Southern Illinois. He was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week and the College Sporting News National Offensive Player of the Week.

Hesslau helped the EIU men's cross country team win its season opening Walt Crawford Open as he was the first place finisher in the meet. Hesslau ran an 8K time of 25:35.49 as EIU had three of the top five finishers in the race.
