A pair of swimmers were honored this week as Eastern Illinois named its Student-Athletes of the Month.  Joe Laird and Laura Nilsen were recognized as the winners for December.
 
Laird is a junior diver from Danville, Ill. who competes in the 1 meter and 3 meter diving competitions.  During November he posted four wins in those events including a two-event sweep at the Panther Invite.  At this weekend’s House of Champions he was a Top 5 finisher in the 3-meter dive.
 
Nilsen is a sophomore swimmer from Orland Park, Ill. where she attended Lockport High.  Nilsen posted four individual wins during the month in the 100 meter back stroke and 200 meter IM.  She was also part of three first place relay teams at the Panther Invite.  She was a Top 5 finisher in the House of Champions 100 meter back stroke this past weekend.
 
Each month during the school year one male and female student-athlete will be recognized for their outstanding performance in their sport.
