ST. LOUIS – After leading Eastern Illinois men's soccer to a bounce-back victory with a goal and two assists Saturday at Western Kentucky, Mick Galeski has been named the Brine/Missouri Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the third time this season.

Galeski is the first Panther in the program's MVC era (1996-present) to win the award three times in the same year. Derrick Perry and Jason Thompson represent the former Panthers that were honored three times in their careers.

Additionally, since EIU joined the Valley there have been seven players tabbed POW three times in the same season. Former Bradley goalkeeper Chris Dunsheath (in 2005) was the last to accomplish the feat. The Offensive honorees include BU's Gavin Glinton ('99), Creighton's Mike Tranchilla ('02) and Tulsa's Ryan Pore ('03 & '04).

Galeski recorded his fifth career multi-assist effort in Saturday's victory, which was EIU's 10th of the year. Four of those five multi-assist showings have come in the last month. Dating back to the Sept. 28 win against IPFW, the senior has recorded four goals and nine assists.

Galeski remains the active MVC leader in career assists with 23. He has also moved into fourth place on the EIU all-time list. With 11 helpers this season, he's just the fourth player in program history to record a double-figure total.

Galeski also started his 50th consecutive match Saturday. Eastern has posted a 25-18-7 record in those 50 matches, with the streak dating back to September 2005. The Panthers were the first MVC team to reach the 10-win plateau this season. Having won 11 games a year ago, EIU has posted consecutive 10-win seasons for the first time since 1988-89.

Creighton (7) and EIU (6) have dominated the Player of the Week awards this season, combining for 13 of the 18 honorees. Eastern leads the way with four Offensive POWs.

Galeski and his classmates Brad Earl and Jeremy Maubach will be honored for their contributions to Panther soccer prior to EIU's home finale, scheduled for Saturday afternoon against Bradley. Kickoff at Lakeside Field is slated for 2 p.m.
