Galeski and Peters were Second Team selections for the second year in a row. Gartner, meanwhile, was a Third Team pick. The 1989 season marked the last time EIU had three All-Region selections.
The Midwest Region for the men's side of NCAA Division I is comprised of teams that compete in the Missouri Valley Conference, Conference USA and Summit League. Coaches from those leagues select the All-Midwest Region teams.
The Valley led the way with 14 All-Region selections, although CUSA was close behind with 13. There were 33 players honored total.
As an upperclassman, Galeski captained EIU to first consecutive 10-win seasons since 1988-89. He enjoyed a career year this fall, recording personal bests in goals (8), assists (12) and points (28) while also leading the team in minutes played (1,948). His 12 helpers were tops in the conference and the second-highest single-season total in program history. The Englishmen scored the game-winner in EIU's MVC Tournament opening-round victory against Drake and was a three-time Conference Player of the Week. He finished his career ranked third in program history in assists.
Peters led the league with 11 goals for the second year in a row, becoming the first player in the program's Valley era (1996-present) to post back-to-back seasons with 10-plus scores. Six of his 11 goals this year proved to game-winners, as the junior established another MVC era record. Early in the season he scored the game-winning goal in three straight contests and took home MVP honors at the UMKC Invitational. Peters – who was also an iron man forward, ranking second on the team in minutes played (1,888) – will enter his senior season as the conference's active leader in goals and points.
Gartner recorded a career-high nine assists while splitting time as a midfielder and defender. He started every game for the second year in a row and ranked third on the team in minutes played (1,868). The junior ranked second to only Galeski among the league leaders in assists. Gartner has also enjoyed the highest level of dual excellence in the true spirit of a student-athlete. He is a two-time All-Conference honoree on the field, and a two-time Academic All-District and MVC Scholar-Athlete Team recipient in the classroom.
Besides the consecutive 10-win seasons, Galeski, Peters and Gartner have also led EIU to three straight MVC Tournament berths for the first time since joining the league.
Peters and Gartner are two of the eight starters expected to return for the 2008 season.
