GAME 7
Eastern Illinois looks to build on its Ohio Valley Conference opening win as the Panthers host two-time defending regular-season champion Austin Peay. EIU is 2-4 on the year but 1-0 in the OVC. Austin Peay is 4-2 and 1-0 in the league. EIU is coming off a 71-61 win over Tennessee State while APSU defeated Southeast Missouri 91-67. A win would push EIU to 2-0 in the league for the first time since 1997-98 when EIU also beat Austin Peay and Tennessee State.
EIU/AUSTIN PEAY SERIES
This will be the 29th meeting between Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay with the Governors holding a 16-12 series lead. APSU has won six in a row in the series with the last EIU win coming the 2004-05 season when the schools split the regular-season series.
SCOUTING AUSTIN PEAY
The Governors were picked to finish third in the OVC preseason poll after winning the last two regular-season titles. They are led by senior forward Drake Reed who was the OVC Player of the Year as a sophomore. Reed is averaging 18.2 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 54.8 percent from the floor. Wes Channels is scoring 17.7 ppg and Kyle Duncan adds 11.2 ppg.
CONFERENCE WIN STREAK
Eastern Illinois looks to extend its current Ohio Valley Conference win streak as the Panthers have now won three straight OVC games dating back to last season when they ended the year with a sweep of Jacksonville State and Samford. All three wins have been at Lantz Arena where the Panthers have won four of their last five conference games. During that run Tyler Laser has been averaging 15 points per game while Ousmane Cisse is pouring in 14.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg. The Panthers are shooting 51.3 percent as a team.
