GAME 16
Eastern Illinois returns home after a 2-1 record on the road to open the 2009 portion of the schedule. The Panthers picked up a pair of conference road victories and enter Thursday night action in sole possession of third place in the OVC standings. Eastern Kentucky is a half game behind at 3-3 as three teams are log jammed in a tie for fourth place. EIU will play six of its next eight OVC contests at Lantz Arena with the lone road games next week at Murray State and UT Martin.
EIU - EASTERN KENTUCKY SERIES
This will be the 25th meeting between Eastern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky with the Colonels holding a 14-10 series advantage. EKU has won eight straight in the series with the last Eastern Illinois win coming back on Feb. 6, 2003 with a 95-76 Panthers victory. Two of the last four meetings have been decided on the last shot of the game including Darnell Dialls bank shot 3-pointer last year.
SCOUTING EASTERN KENTUCKY
Eastern Kentucky brings an outside, in style of play to Lantz Arena on Thursday night as the Colonels like to bomb away from outside the 3-point arch. This season EKU had attempted 48 percent of their shots from 3-point range connecting at 39.2 percent. Senior Mike Rose is the leader hitting 47 percent from 3-point range averaging 20.1 points per game. Through 16 games this season four EKU players have made at least 20 3-pointers.
BACK-TO-BACK 20 POINT WINS IN CAPE
Eastern Illinois matched its largest margin of victory in an OVC contest under current head coach Mike Miller on Saturday night with a 20-point win over Southeast Missouri. It was the second straight season EIU had beaten SEMO by 20 points in Cape Girardeau and the 8th double digit OVC win in four years.
