CHARLESTON, Ill. -- With the score tied at five, the Gray team's six-run eighth inning propelled it to an 11-5 win in the opening game of Eastern Illinois baseball's Fall World Series. Five of the six runs scored in the inning were scored with two outs.
After third baseman
George Kalousek scored on
Rich Ruff's sacrifice fly, the Gray squad strung together five hits with a walk mixed in resulting in five more runs.
The Blue Team took a 5-4 lead in the fifth inning when
Zach Borenstein launched a two-run home run to right field.
Mike Hoekstra picked up the win for the Gray, in relief of
Dillon Roark, throwing two scoreless innings. The Gray bullpen threw four scoreless innings with
Matt Miller throwing the other two.
Designated hitter
David Ciaglia drove in two runs for the Blue squad.
Game two will be Sunday at 11 a.m.
Mike Recchia (Blue) and
Josh Mueller (Gray) are the probable starting pitchers.
