CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois men's soccer was unable to take advantage of an early goal by sophomore Kyle Bullock, as the Panthers dropped a 2-1 Missouri Valley Conference contest to instate rival SIU Edwardsville on Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Panthers to 4-8 on the season and 1-3 in league action.
Four minutes into the first half, Bullock nailed his second goal of the season thanks to a nice double-assist to juniors Zach Piekarski and Ryan Child.
However, the visitors connected on their first of two header goals in the day just 30 minutes later to knot the score at one-all heading into the break.
SIUE (7-5-1/2-1) would earn the game-winner off in the first part of the second half via another header off a corner kick that would just barely dribble into the shallow part of the Panther goal.
EIU actually won the shots statistical with a 20 to 18 advantage, although the Cougars had 13 on goal as compared to 11 for the Panthers.
EIU senior goalkeeper Sean Molony had a nice day defensively, as he finished with ten saves, while his counterpart on the SIUE side of the side, Nick Collico, had nine saves of his own.
SIUE doubled-up the Panthers in corner-kick opportunities, while Eastern also had twice as many fouls then the Cougars, 22 to 11.
The Panthers will continue home MVC play this coming Wednesday, hosting state rival Bradley at 2:30 pm at Lakeside Field.
