JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Rain in the central Alabama area forced the cancellation of Eastern Illinois softball's third game of the OVC weekend series at Jacksonville State on Sunday, with the game suspended in the bottom of the first inning following a 30-minute delay.

The Panthers will return to Charleston following two crucial wins, 3-1 and 6-4, over the Gamecocks on Saturday, which marked the first regular-season series sweep of JSU by an Eastern squad and improved their record to 8-11 overall and a perfect OVC start at 2-0.

EIU will now prepare for a busy mid-week slate, hosting IUPUI in a twinbill on Wednesday and a single game with SIU-Edwardsville on Thursday, with both matchups set for 4 pm starts.

Panthers will then continue their season-long six-game homestand on the weekend, hosting Tennessee Tech in a three-game OVC series which begins with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm, followed by a Sunday single game at noon.
