CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's basketball has added to its 2010 recruiting class as Panther head coach Mike Miller announced the addition of 6'8”, 237 lb., forward Nick McFarlin on Thursday afternoon.
McFarlin comes to EIU following one season at Black Hawk College in the Quad-Cities. Last year he averaged 10.5 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists playing for coach Darren Bizarri as Black Hawk went 19-13. His 8.4 rebounds per game ranked 9th in NJCAA Region IV.
“Nick (McFarlin) is an active, versatile forward who will give us an athletic presence next season,” said Miller on his latest recruit. “He is a mobile player has shown the ability to score, rebound and defend extremely well which are all areas that will help us.”
As a prep athlete at Davenport (Iowa) North HS he averaged 15.5 points and 13 rebounds per game earning first team All-Conference honors as a junior and senior.
McFarlin played his freshman season at Radford University averaging 1.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. As a sophomore he appeared in the first five games of the season averaging 2.6 points and 2.4 rebounds.
At the winter break of his sophomore season McFarlin returned home to help care for an ailing grandparent. In October of 2009 he was granted a waiver by the NCAA allowing him to play this past season at Black Hawk College thus counting his sophomore season at Radford as a redshirt year.
