Colonels 3's Sink Panthers At Lantz

EIU falls 63-49 to EKU

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Kentucky hit 10-of-25 from 3-point range as the Colonels built a 12-point halftime lead en route to a 63-49 win over Eastern Illinois. EKU improved to 8-9, 3-4 in the OVC. EIU fell to 6-10, 2-4 in the OVC.

EKU jumped out to a 10-2 lead as Joshua Jones and Josh Daniel knocked down 3-pointers in the first four minutes of action. EIU cut the margin to 10-8 on buckets by James Hollowell and a three point play by Shaun Pratl at 13:03.

The Colonels answered with a 9-3 run with Jeff Allgood draining a 3-pointer as the Panthers were never able to get closer than eight for the first half. EKU led 32-20 shooting 56 percent for the first half. EIU shot 33 percent for the half.

EIU opened the second half with a 5-0 run as Hollowell cut the lead to seven points with back-to-back jumpers. He would finish with nine points.

EKU again responded this time with a 19-2 run that spanned from the 17:57 mark until the 13:00 minute mark of the second half. Daniel sank two more 3-pointers as he was one of three EKU players in double figures with 14. Jones led the Colonels with 16 and Justin Stommes chipped in with 11.

Jeremy Granger would sink a pair of 3-pointers down the stretch that cut the margin to 14 but that was as close as the Panthers would get. Granger led EIU with 15 points.

EIU returns to action on Saturday hosting Morehead State.
