Panthers Pull Away From Anderson, 80-47

EIU has four players score in double figures in win

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois opened the second half with a 15-5 run as the Panthers pulled away for a non-conference win over Anderson University on Monday night. EIU improved to 6-8 with the 80-47 victory. Anderson dropped to 7-4.

The Panthers opened the game pulling out to a 17-6 lead in the first 5:18 of the game as Jeremy Granger had six early points en route to a game-high 18 point night. Four of those early points were from the free throw line as the nation's No. 12 ranked free throw shooter was 4-for-4 for the evening increasing his season percentage to 92 percent.

Anderson would close the margin to four points at the 10:25 mark as Brock Morrison hit a 3-pointer as the Ravens finished the contest 6-of-25 from beyond the arc. Morrison has a team high nine points for Anderson.

EIU closed the half leading 41-32 as the Panthers hit 50 percent from the field and 67 percent from 3-point range.

Alfonzo McKinnie's lay-up with 16:48 left in the game put EIU up double digits and the Panthers slowly pulled away leading by as many as 36 points on a Taylor Jones 3-pointer at 1:39.

Four players ended the game in double figures for EIU as McKinnie scored 14, #L.C. Doss 12 and Zavier Sanders 12. James Hollowell# had 10 rebounds as the Panthers dominated the glass with a 48-31 margin. EIU also dominated play in the paint with a 40-18 advantage.

EIU will return to Ohio Valley Conference action on Saturday with a 6 p.m. game at Southeast Missouri.
