NASHVILLE, Tenn. – EIU men's soccer fell in its final non-conference match of the season, 3-0, at Belmont on Tuesday evening. EIU drops to 7-8-1 on the year.
Brandon Tarr scored two first half goals – one in the 24
th minute and one in the 29
th minute – to give the Bruins (7-9-2) an early advantage they wouldn't relinquish. Pedro Miranda scored his third goal of the season in the 69
th minute, making the score 3-0 in favor of Belmont.
Despite the loss, the Panthers outshot the Bruins by four (13-9) on the night. Belmont had a 6-5 advantage in shots on goal.
It was a physical match as the two teams combined for 25 fouls. Three red cards and one yellow card were issued in the contest.
Freshman
Will Butler paced the Panthers with four shots (one on goal) while classmate
Tayron Martin added three shots (one on goal). Tarr led the Bruins with four shots.
Tyler Kelley took the loss in goal for EIU, making three saves and allowing three goals in 79 minutes of action.
Evan Turner started the second half between the pipes and logged 11 minutes before receiving a red card.
Belmont also used two goalkeepers with Lou Manning starting the match and Juho Illi playing the second stanza. Manning made four saves while Illi made one. The shutout was the fourth of the season for the Bruins.
