Second Half 3's Send EIU To Loss At EKU

Panthers fall 67-47 on the road

RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky hit seven straight 3-pointers early in the second half to break open a close game as the Colonels pulled away for a 67-47 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday night. EIU fell to 8-17, 4-11 in the OVC. 

The Panthers held a 26-24 halftime lead as they shot 50 percent from the field. #L.C. Doss# scored eight of his ten points in the first half including a pair of 3-pointers. EIU was able to hold EKU to only 1-of-11 from 3-point range in the first half.
 
Trailing 30-28, EKU hit seven straight 3-pointers over the next 6:30 as the Colonels took the lead and moved it to double digits at the 11:56 mark on a Jeff Johnson 3-pointer. 

The Panthers would cut the lead down to ten but could never overcome the Colonels hot shooting from beyond the arc. EKU would finish the game 10-of-24 from 3-point range including hitting 9-of-13 in the second half. 

Justin Stommes was the top 3-point artist for the Colonels hitting 4-of-9 from outside to lead all players with 20 points. Johnson added 16 for EKU which improved to 15-11, 9-6 in the OVC. The Colonels shot 51 percent for the game. EIU finished at 43 percent. 

Jeremy Granger led EIU with 15 points. The Panthers will host UT Martin on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The contest will serve as senior day for the Panthers as EIU will honor seniors Matt Dorlack, Tyler Laser and Curry McKinney prior the game.
