Bruins Upend Panthers in Overtime, 2-1

Sophomore Garet Christianson scored EIU’s lone goal

CHARLESTON, Ill. –
The Panther men's soccer team fell in overtime, 2-1, against Belmont on Tuesday afternoon at Lakeside Field. EIU drops to 3-13 on the year.
 
In the 94th minute, Luca Schioppa scored from just inside the top of the box off a pass from the right from Raphael Colmanette to seal the win for Belmont. The Bruins improved to 6-8-2 on the year with the victory.
 
Colmanette broke open a scoreless match in the 66th minute when he scored his third goal of the season, giving the Bruins a 1-0 advantage. EIU tied the match only 10 minutes later on a goal by Garet Christianson. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native scored his second goal of the season off a cross from the right by Anthony DiNuzzo.
 
Belmont took six more shots (18-12) than EIU, including five more shots on goal (9-4). The Bruins took one more corner kick (4-3) than the Panthers while EIU committed four more fouls (13-9).
 
Christianson paced the Panther attack with five shots (one on goal).Colmanette, Schioppa and Brandon Tarr all had two shots on goal for the Bruins.
 
Evan Turner (1-7) took the loss between the pipes for EIU, surrendering two goals and making seven saves. Manning (6-8-2) recorded the win for Belmont, allowing one goal and making three saves.
 
The Panthers conclude the 2012 season at Oakland on Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. CT.
