Baseball Drops Game Two of OVC Series with EKU

Series finale is schedule for Sunday, April 15 at noon

RICHMOND, Ky. –
The Panther baseball team dropped game two of their Ohio Valley Conference series with Eastern Kentucky, 9-2, on Saturday afternoon at Turkey Hughes Field.
 
EIU took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first, scoring two runs on two hits and the lone EKU error of the game. Ryan Dineen hit a lead-off single to centerfield before advancing to second base on a Nick Priessman ground out. A throwing error by the EKU short stop on the following play scored Dineen before a Jacob Reese RBI single scored the final run of the inning.
 
EKU tied the game at two in the second inning before taking a 3-2 advantage in the sixth on a Michael Garcia solo home run. The Colonels added six more insurance runs over the next two innings to take a 9-2 lead into the final inning of play.
 
EKU posted three more hits (12-9) than the Panthers and committed one fewer error (2-1). EIU left one more runner on base (9-8) in the loss.
 
Dineen led the Panther offense as he was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Cameron Berra also added two hits.
 
Christian Slazinik (4-4) took the loss on the mound for EIU, striking out four and surrendering four runs (three earned) in 6.1 innings of work. Luke Bushur threw four strikeouts and allowed five runs (one earned) in the final 1.2 innings.
 
Shane Grimm (4-4) picked up the win for EKU, surrendering nine hits with one strikeout in seven innings. Richie Rodriguez led the Colonels at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and run. A.J. Jamison also added a grand slam, coming in the bottom of the seventh inning.
 
The series finale between EIU and EKU is slated to start at noon on Sunday, April 15.
