CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Kentucky scored six runs in the fourth inning to take the final game of the series, 13-4, over host Eastern Illinois on Sunday afternoon at Williams Field.  EKU improved to 22-25 overall, 13-10 in the OVC while EIU fell to 24-20, 14-8 in the OVC.

The Panthers will host IUPUI on Wednesday for a softball doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.

The Lady Colonels started the scoring early with an RBI by Nicole Heitz in the first and an RBI by Larkyn Wood in the second.

After those two early runs EKU capitalized on a couple of EIU errors in the fourth to help set up their six run inning.  The first error led to Wood's second RBI on a single to left.  The second error off of the glove of pitcher Stephanie Maday scored Christina Ciolek and kept the inning alive which later resulted in a grand slam by EKU's Raquel Howes which broke the game open.

The Panthers answered back in the bottom of the inning with two runs.  The first coming as Melise Brown was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  Carly Willert drove in the second run on an infield ground out with bases loaded.  EKU starter Shaylon Robb was replaced in the inning by Leanna Pittsenbarger who closed out the game to improve to 11-12.

After holding the Lady Colonels scoreless in the top of the fifth Bailey O'Dell singled through the left side driving in Hannah Cole and bringing the Panthers back to within five runs.

However in the top of the sixth the Lady Colonels managed to get to EIU starter Maday by tacking on two more runs.  Maday left the game having given up 10 runs but only three of them earned.  She fell to 14-10 with the loss.

Willert came around to score for the Panthers in the sixth as Ashleigh Westover reached on an error but was thrown out at third base trying to extend the play.  EKU tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Willert, O'Dell and Westover all finished 2-for-4 for EIU.  Howes led EKU with three hits and six RBI.
