CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois lost a pair of mid-week non-conference contests to visiting IUPUI on Wednesday (April 25), by scores of 3-2 (10) and 1-0.  The Panthers are now in the midst of a four-game losing streak as the squad falls to 24-22 on the season.

Sophomore Carly Willert led all EIU hitters with a 2-for-5 day at the plate in the twinbill, which included an RBI and a pair of doubles.

Junior Melise Brown added her own RBI thanks to a solo homer to knot the first game and extend the action into extra innings.

Sophomores pitchers Stephanie Maday and Hanna Mennenga were tabbed for the two losses, respectively.  Maday had a nine strikeout game in the first game thriller, with all three IUPUI (17-30) scores coming unearned.  Mennenga added five Ks of her own in the nightcap loss, with the lone Jaguar score coming via a solo homerun.

Maday drops to 14-11 on the year following the tenth-inning heartbreaker, while Mennenga falls to 10-8 in the circle with the second game loss.

For the day, EIU would strand ten total baserunners, as compared to 12 for IUPUI, with both teams nailing 11 hits on the day.  Neither squad hit exceptionally well as the two games came down to pitching duels with EIU holding a slight .196 to .190 batting average in the twinbill.

EIU had two stolen bases as compared to just one for the visiting I-70 rivals, and IUPUI had two miscues for just one for the Panthers.

The two wins by IUPUI helped to snap a recent five-game winning streak by the Panthers in the recent all-time series, which included winning the season-opener over the Jags at the Georgia State Tourney this past February.

Eastern is set to return to Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend as the Panthers hit the road for one final regular-season league series.  EIU will take on the OVC-leading Skyhawks of UTM in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, followed by a single-game on Sunday, also with a 1 p.m. start.
