CHARLESTON, Ill. – With just over three minutes remaining in double overtime, Shafial Mason scored his first goal of the season to push the Central Arkansas men's soccer team over Eastern Illinois, 2-1, on Friday evening at Lakeside Field. EIU falls to 1-6 on the year.
 
The match remained scoreless until the 72
nd minute when Daniel Sampedro netted his second goal of the year, giving the Bears the one-goal advantage. Sampedro finished the night with a match-high eight shots (four on goal).
 
EIU scored its equalizer in the 86
th minute when a 
Jake Irwin throw-in from the left slipped through the hands of Central Arkansas goalkeeper Cody Gibson.
 
The Bears took 11 more shots (24-13) than the Panthers, including two more shots on goal (8-6). EIU committed nine more fouls (20-11) than Central Arkansas and took two more corner kicks (5-3).
 
Tayron Martin paced the Panthers with three shots (two on goal) while 
Jake Brillhart and 
Tony Meza both added two shots. A total of six EIU players played the entire match.
 
Evan Turner (0-4) took the loss in goal, making six saves and surrendering two goals. Gibson (3-0) posted the win for the Bears, allowing one goal and tallying five saves.
 
The Panthers return to action on Sept. 18 when they play host to Loyola (IL) at 4:30 p.m.
