Panthers Play Host to Eagles, Colonels

EIU continues OVC action on Friday, Oct. 4 against Morehead State at 3 p.m.

MATCHES 12-13
The Panther women's soccer team continues Ohio Valley Conference action at home against Morehead State on Friday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m. and Eastern Kentucky on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. EIU is 2-0 in OVC play while MSU and EKU are both 1-0.
 
JERZY NAMED OVC GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK
Sophomore Cortney Jerzy was named the Ohio Valley Conference's Goalkeeper of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
 
She posted a 0.99 goals against average in 181:35 minutes of action in two matches last weekend as the Panthers opened OVC action with a 2-0 record for the second time in three years. Jerzy made 14 saves, the most in a match by an OVC goalkeeper this season, and posted her first career shutout in the Panthers 1-0 overtime win at Belmont on Sept. 27.
 
Jerzy made three saves and allowed two goals in the Panthers 4-2 win over Tennessee Tech on Sept. 29 at Lakeside Field.
 
RADLOFF NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK BY COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS
Junior midfielder Meagan Radloff was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week by College Sports Madness on Tuesday, Oct. 1.
 
Radloff led the Panthers to a 2-0 record to start OVC play with a 1-0 overtime win at Belmont and a 4-2 win over Tennessee Tech on Sept. 29 at Lakeside Field.
 
The West Chicago, Ill., native scored two goals in the win over the Golden Eagles on Sept. 29. Radloff scored her first goal of the season in the 38th minute to tie the match before scoring the Panthers final goal in the 86th minute to seal the victory.
 
PANTHER NOTES
• The Panthers have started their conference schedule with a 2-0 record for the second time in three seasons. EIU also started the 2011 campaign with a 2-0 record.
 
• EIU opened its conference schedule with a 1-0 overtime win at Belmont on Sept. 27. The Panthers are now 5-0-1 in their last six contests played into overtime.
 
• The Panthers defeated Tennessee Tech, 4-2, on Sept. 29, scoring four goals in a match for the first time since 2004.
 
• Meagan Radloff leads the Panthers in scoring with five points (two goals, one assist). The junior midfielder now has three goals and three assists in her career.
 
• Molly Hawkins and Allie Lakie both scored their first career goals last weekend. Hawkins scored the game-winning goal in overtime at Belmont on Sept. 27 while Lakie scored one of four Panther goals in the 4-2 defeat of Tennessee Tech on Sept. 29.
 
MOREHEAD STATE SERIES HISTORY
The Panthers are 11-5-3 all-time against the Eagles, including a 7-0-2 mark in home matches. EIU defeated Morehead State, 2-0, on Oct. 16, 2011 in the last meeting at Lakeside Field.
 
Last season, the two squads played to a 1-1 tie on Oct. 19 in Morehead, Ky.
 
EASTERN KENTUCKY SERIES HISTORY
The Panthers are 6-3 all-time against the Colonels, including a 2-2 mark in home matches. EKU has won the last two meetings between the two schools as EIU is looking for its first home win in the series since a 1-0 victory on Oct. 10, 2010.
 
Last season, the Panthers dropped a 2-1 road contest at Eastern Kentucky on Oct, 21.
 
SCOUTING THE EAGLES
The Eagles are 2-7-1 overall with a 2-4-1 record in road matches. MSU is 1-0 in conference play after defeating Jacksonville State, 2-1, in double overtime on Sept. 29.
 
Jade Flory leads the team in scoring with six goals and three assists. She was named the OVC Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 1, capturing the award for the second consecutive week.
 
Defensively, four different players have spent time in goal as the team has a 2.18 goals against average. Kaitlynn Murphy has seen the most minutes between the pipes, logging 308 minutes with a 1.17 GAA and 13 saves.
 
SCOUTING THE COLONELS
Eastern Kentucky is 2-7-1 on the year with a 2-4 road record. The Colonels are 1-0 in conference play after posting a 1-0 shutout at Jacksonville State on Sept. 27.
 
Cassie Smith and Kristan Paynter led the team in scoring with four points each. Paynter is the lone player with multiple goals as she has scored two.
 
Two goalies have seen action for EKU as they have combined for a 2.93 goals against average. Erika Wolfer has seen the most time in goal, logging 724 minutes with a 2.98 GAA, 40 saves and two shutouts. 

UP NEXT
The Panthers travel to Austin Peay (Oct. 11) and Murray State (Oct. 13) before returning to Lakeside Field to host Jacksonville State on Oct. 18.
