DEKALB, Ill. – The Panther women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest at in-state foe Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon at the NIU Soccer and Track Complex.
After a scoreless first half, the Huskies (1-0) scored three goals to capture their first win of the season. Nicole Gobbo scored in the 51st minute from three yards out on the right off a team save by Panther defender Allie Lakie. NIU added goals in the 68th and 69th minutes to seal the victory.
NIU took 15 more shots (17-2) than EIU and had seven more corner kicks (8-1). Both squads committed eight fouls in the match.
Gobbo led the Huskies with three shots (two on goal) while Karlee Deacon took the Panthers lone shot on goal.
Kylie Morgan (0-1) made four saves for EIU between the pipes, logging all 90 minutes. Amy Carr (1-0) made one save in goal for the Huskies.
The Panthers return to action at the Green Bay Soccer Tournament on Aug. 30 – Sept. 1. EIU faces Northern Iowa at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 and Green Bay at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1.
