GREEN BAY, Wis. – Northern Iowa scored two, second-half goals to defeat the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team, 2-0, on Friday afternoon at the Green Bay Phoenix Tournament. EIU falls to 0-3 on the season.
In the 72
nd minute, Mary Brandt broke open a scoreless match, heading the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick by Maggie Riley. UNI (1-2) scored an insurance goal in the 81
st minute to take a 2-0 advantage on a goal by Morgan Gallagher.
UNI took seven more shots (11-4) than EIU and took nine more corner kicks (10-1). UNI also committed four more fouls (8-4) than EIU in the contest.
Panther freshman
Madison Kloster took the lone shot on goal for EIU while Brady Clark led UNI with two shots on goal.
Cortney Jerzy (0-1) made four saves in goal for EIU while Nicole Postel made one save and posted the shutout between the pipes for UNI.
The Panthers conclude tournament action against host Green Bay on Sunday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m.
