MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State scored three, first-half goals to defeat the Eastern Illinois women's soccer team, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at the Briner Sports Complex. EIU falls to 0-5 on the year.
The Cardinals (3-1) got on the scoreboard early in the 22
nd minute on a goal by Maimee Morris before Kelsey Wendlandt made the score 2-0 only 14 seconds later. Ball State added its final goal only 41 seconds before intermission on a goal by Erin Greeley. Elaina Musleh was created with an assist on each Cardinal goal.
The Panthers were outshot by 21 (31-10) in the match and had seven fewer corner kicks (8-1). EIU committed four more fouls (8-4) than Ball State in the loss. EIU had seven shots in the second half with five shots on goal.
Lauren Hoppensteadt led the Panthers with two shots on goal while
Gabby Charles added two shots. Wendlandt paced the Cardinals with five shots (three on goal).
Kylie Morgan (0-2) took the loss in goal for EIU, making seven saves in the first half.
Emily Hinton played the second half, not allowing a goal and making four saves. Brooke Dennis (2-0) made five saves between the pipes for Ball State, all coming in the second half.
The Panthers return to action at Missouri on Sept. 13 at 6:30 p.m.
