CHARLESTON, Ill. – Former Eastern Illinois baseball player Andy Haines has been named the manager for the New Orleans Zephyrs (Miami Marlins – Triple A). He was previously the organization's manager for two seasons with the Jupiter Hammerheads (Advanced A).
Haines guided the Hammerheads to a 68-69 overall record in 2013 after leading the team to the Florida State League Championship in 2012. He also coached the Marlins Single-A affiliate, the Greensboro Grasshoppers, from 2010-11. All told, the 2014 season will be his seventh season with the Marlins organization.
Haines is not the only former Panther coaching professional baseball as Tim Bogar (1984-87) was recently named the bench coach for the Texas Rangers and Kevin Seitzer (1981-83) was tabbed the hitting coach for the Toronto Blue Jays. Derek Johnson (1993) will also be in his second year as the minor league pitching coordinator for the Chicago Cubs.
