GAME 8Eastern Illinois returns home from an extended road trip as part of the Emerald Coast Classic. EIU is 2-5 on the season following a pair of games in Niceville, Florida. The Panthers lost on Friday to North Carolina Central but rebounded on Saturday to pick up a 54-43 win over Southern University. EIU will play two of its next three games at home leading into finals week on campus (Dec. 15-19). Ball State enters the game with a 2-2 record having last played on Nov. 24 when they beat Grambling State, 88-46.
TRAE ANDERSON MAKES ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAMJunior college transfer
Trae Anderson was named to the Emerald Coast Classic All-Tournament team after finishing with 16 points in the win over Southern University. In the four games that made up the tournament, Anderson averaged 11.3 points per game with 12 points at Cincinnati to start the Classic on Nov. 23. Anderson shot 43 percent from the field in those four games adding 3.7 rebounds per game and five blocked shots.
PANTHERS OPEN WITH BIG RUNEastern Illinois opened up its game with Southern University with one of its biggest runs in recent history. The Panthers held Southern without a field goal for the first 11:10 of the game as they built a 24-1 lead.
Josh Piper hit a 3-pointer to open the game. Following a Jaguars free throw, EIU went on a 21-0 run. EIU limited SU to 14 first half points to lead 32-14 at the half. It marked the lowest total since EIU held Western Illinois to 14 first half points on Dec. 12, 2009.
