CHARLESTON, Ill. -- The recent return of wintry weather to East Central Illinois has forced the cancellation of Eastern Illinois softball's home and Ohio Valley Conference weekend openers versus Southeast Missouri on March 15-16.

Due to unplayable field conditions at EIU's Williams Field, the three-game league series versus the Redhawks will not take place as originally scheduled this weekend, although a potential mid-week doubleheader between the two league rivals may take place later this spring.  More details about that possible make-up date will be announced once finalized.

The Panthers, who recently finished their early-season non-conference slate at 18-7 overall, will now prepare for a pair of road weekend matchups versus defending OVC tourney champion Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech set for next weekend (March 22-23).
