CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.  – The Eastern Illinois baseball team dropped both games of a Saturday doubleheader at Austin Peay as the Governors captured the Ohio Valley Conference series, 2-1.
Â
After winning 7-6 in the Friday series opener, the Panthers lost game one of Saturday's doubleheader, 14-10. Austin Peay defeated the Panthers, 10-6, in game two to win the series as they improved to 8-10 overall and 2-1 in OVC play. EIU falls to 4-15 on the year and 2-4 in conference action.
Â
"This is the first weekend our pitchers really haven't been as sharp as usual," said Eastern Illinois head coach
Jim Schmitz. "Give credit to Austin Peay for being aggressive at the plate. We were short handed on the pitching staff with some injuries and that made for a long weekend.
Â
"We are staying positive and battling back in every game. Next weekend's non-conference series couldn't have come at a better time as we will have time to work on some things before we play Jacksonville State the following weekend."
Â
The Panthers return to action at Southern Illinois on March 18.
