EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois softball dropped identical 2-0 shutouts at SIU Edwardsville on Saturday (May 3) to end any hopes of a second consecutive regular-season Ohio Valley Conference championship.
 
Eastern drops to 37-15 overall and 17-6 in league play, as the Panthers have earned a No. 3 Seed at the upcoming league championship next, which will be hosted by regular-season champion Jacksonville State, who picked up a pair of road wins at Eastern Kentucky.  SIUE will earn the No. 2 Seed.
 
The Panthers were only able to pick up a single hit in each contest on the day, as the host Cougars secured a pair of runs in the opening frame on both ends of the twin bill en route to the Saturday sweep.

The two instate rivals will have one final OVC matchup at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
