EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois softball fell in walk-off fashion in the regular-season finale at SIU Edwardsville on Sunday (May 4), as the Cougars earned the weekend Ohio Valley Conference sweep of the Panthers via the 2-1 victory.
 
Eastern drops to 37-16 overall and end the league regular-season at 17-7 as the Panthers finish third overall and second in the OVC West Division.

EIU will be the No. 3-Seed at the upcoming league tourney, to be hosted by regular-season champion Jacksonville State from Wed., May 7 thru Sat., May 10.  SIUE will be the No. 2 Seed.

Panthers will open up the tourney with a 10 a.m. game versus #6-UT Martin.  Complete tourney schedule below.
 
EIU actually enjoyed a 1-0 lead in the regular-season finale with SIUE as sophomore April Markowski drilled an RBI single to center to plate classmate Jennette Isaac from second base in the top of the sixth frame.

But the host squad (27-21/19-5) would earn the win in the seventh as the Cougars nailed a double, then advanced to third off sac bunt, before scoring off an EIU error on the fielder's choice.  An RBI single would follow to earn the walk-off win.

For the weekend series, EIU trailed SIUE in hitting (.086-to-.210), hits (six-to-13), runs (one-to-six), RBI (one-to-five), total bases (seven-to-14), strikeouts thrown (seven-to-25), and ERA (2.29-to-0.00).  Panthers did win the base running game with five stolen bases for just two tfor the Cougars, while both squads committed three errors.
