Freshman Scores In Opener: Eastern Illinois got early contributions from several members of its freshmen class with
Dominic Recca making an immediate impact in the opener. Recca scored one goal and assisted on the other as the Panthers picked up a 2-0 win over Saint Francis (Ill.).
Panthers Score On Free Kick In Loss: Eastern Illinois battled Lipscomb in its second game of the season but fell short against the Bison 2-1. EIU is now 1-1 on the season heading into weekend action with Central Arkansas and Culver-Stockton. During the Lipscomb contest EIU scored its goal on a free kick by
Davis Wegmann.
Season Opening Win: Eastern Illinois won its season opener 2-1 over Saint Francis (Ill.). It marked the first time that Eastern Illinois has won a season opening game since beating Northwestern to open the 2011 season. Last season EIU only won one contest.
Shutout In Goal: Eastern Illinois played both goalkeepers during its 2-0 win over Saint Francis (Ill.) as
Ben Feltes and
Mike Novotny combined on the shutout. It marked the first shutout win by the Panthers since mid-September 2012 when EIU beat Loyola-Chicago, 2-0.
Head Coach: Eastern Illinois will be under the direction of
Mark Hansen who takes over for his first season as the Panthers head coach. A former goalkeeper for EIU, Hansen graduated from EIU in 2009. He served as the goalkeepers coach at EIU for the past five years before being named the head coach in May of 2014
Series: Eastern Illinois will travel to Central Arkansas on Friday evening. The two schools are former members of the Missouri Valley Conference. EIU leads the all-time series 5-1. UCA is 1-0 on the season. The Panthers return home to host Culver-Stockton on Monday afternoon. This will be the first meeting between the two schools. Culver-Stockton enters the weekend at 1-1.
