GAME 15Eastern Illinois won its fifth straight game improving to 2-0 in the OVC for only the second time in school history. The Panthers are now 8-6 on the season following the weekend sweep of Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. EIU is looking to go three games over .500 for the first time since Jan. 12, 2012 when EIU was 9-6 after beating UT Martin to stand at 2-1 in the OVC. TSU lost its OVC opener to Southeast Missouri and is 3-13 overall, 0-1 in the league.
OLIVIER OVC PLAYER OF THE WEEKChris Olivier was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week after helping the Panthers open conference play with a 2-0 record. Olivier scored a career high 22 points in Thursday's win over Tennessee Tech. He posted his third career double-double on Saturday with 20 points and 10 rebounds against Jacksonville State. He shot 57.7 percent for the week. For the season Olivier is shooting 55.1 percent to rank ninth in the OVC.
2-0 IN THE OVCEastern Illinois improved to 2-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference for only the second time during the Panthers 19 years in the league. The other occasion was during the 1997-98 season. EIU has started a conference season with three straight wins three times in the program's NCAA Division I history. The last was 1985-86 when EIU opened Mid-Continent Conference play 4-0. EIU would finish that season 8-6 in league play and lose to Cleveland State in Mid-Continent Conference Tournament Championship game.
