EIU PITCHES A SHUT OUT:  For the third time this season EIU had a shutout as the Panthers beat Tennessee Tech 1-0 on Friday afternoon. It did mark the first time this season that EIU has picked up a win with a shutout. Previously this season EIU posted a double overtime 0-0 tie with IUPUI and Jacksonville State.
PANTHERS PLAYING FREE SOCCER: For the sixth time this season Eastern Illinois played extra soccer as the Panthers went to overtime against Morehead State on Sunday. The Eagles won with just over three minutes gone in the second overtime as they were awarded a penalty kick. EIU is 0-4-2 in overtime contests this year. The six overtimes this season are the most for EIU since the Panthers had seven overtimes during the 2012 season.

MADDIE LYON PLAYS WELL: Eastern Illinois freshman goalkeeper
Maddie Lyon played well over the weekend as EIU lost in double overtime to Morehead State. The keeper had posted two straight shutouts prior to the MSU match with a 0-0 tie with Jacksonville State and a 1-0 win over Tennessee Tech. Until allowing the penalty kick by Morehead State in double overtime Lyon had played 302 minutes without allowing a goal.

PANTHERS WRAPPING UP LONG HOME STAND: Eastern Illinois will be closing out a four match home stand on Friday afternoon with the Panthers hosting Eastern Kentucky. The home stand has carried out over three weeks with EIU 1-1-1 in the previous three home matches. The Panthers final home match of the season will be on Thursday, Oct. 29 against SIU Edwardsville.

SERIES RECORD: Eastern Illinois and Eastern Kentucky will be meeting for the 12th time on Friday afternoon with the Panthers holding a 7-4 all-time series lead over the Colonels. EKU won last year's match 3-2.

HEAD COACH:Â Â
Jason Cherry is in his third season as the Panthers head coach. Cherry was named the OVC Coach of the Year following his first season in 2013 after EIU posted a 6-4 conference record. Cherry is a 2011 graduate of Western Illinois and served as an assistant coach at EIU for one season before taking over the head coach duties.
