ATHENS, Ga. – Eastern Illinois allowed six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as the Panthers lost the final weekend game of the season opening series at Georgia, 11-1, on Sunday afternoon.
EIU dropped to 0-3 on the season while Georgia improved to 3-0.
Stephen Wrenn tripled to open the bottom of the first for UGA as they plated runs in the first and third inning. Â The Bulldogs then took advantage of an error early in the fifth and blew the game open with six runs. Â EIU starter
Garrison Stenger (0-1) suffered the loss.
EIU put together some late offense as the Panthers scored in the ninth. Â
Demetre Taylor tripled and came around to score on a base hit by
Brant Valach. Â Taylor was 2-of-4 as the Panthers were limited to five hits.
David Sosebee (1-0) picked up the win for Georgia. Â Wrenn was 3-of-5 with two runs scored.
