COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois and Tennessee Tech began play at 2 p.m. on Friday afternoon and following several weather delays, Tennessee Tech made an early lead stand up for an 11-5 win. The two teams will wrap up the three-game series on Saturday at 2 p.m.
EIU fell to 0-23 on the season, 0-11 in the OVC. TTU improved to 12-17 overall, 6-8 in the OVC.
Tennessee Tech scored three runs in the first inning against EIU starter
Jake Johansmeier (0-5). Ryan Flick had the big hit of the inning with a two-run double to center. Flick would collect his third RBI of the day in the sixth inning when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
EIU cut into the margin in the top of the second with
Jason Scholl driving home one run. The Panthers scored the other run on an error against TTU starter Evan Fraliex (3-2). Fraliex worked six innings for the win.
TTU provided Fraliex all the offense he would need with three more runs in the bottom of the second. Tyler Brazelton, Dylan Bosheers and Jordan Hopkins delivered RBI hits in the inning.Â
Cale Hennemann hit a solo home run in the third and EIU cut the lead to 7-4 in the top of the sixth with a
John Devito single to center.
The game then had a one-hour delay due to weather after the top of the sixth. When TTU came to bat they scored one run on the Flick hit by pitch. A three hour weather delay then followed but that did not slow down the Golden Eagles bats as they scored two more runs with a hit by Trevor Putzig.Â
Jeb Scoggins closed out the final three innings for TTU to pick up his second save of the year.Â
Josh Turnock drove home a run for the Panthers in the eighth.Â
Caleb Howell led EIU at the plate going 2-for-3. Â
