CHARLESTON, Ill. – Seniors
Hannah Miller and
Molly Hawkins both found the back of the net twice on Sunday afternoon as they helped Eastern Illinois pick up a 4-1 win over Chicago State on senior day for the Panthers at Lakeside Field.
EIU improved to 2-6-1 on the season and will open Ohio Valley Conference play next weekend at UT Martin. Chicago State fell to 0-9.
The Cougars got on the board first as Jyllian Coggins scored Chicago State's first goal of the season in the 35th minute. Coggins beat EIU goalkeeper
Hannah Vieth to a loose ball near the top of the goal box and connected for the score. Bri Kelly sent the first volley towards the net for the assist.
EIU tied the game less than two minutes later as Miller had a one touch goal on a good cross by
Kathleen MacKinnon. Miller was the Panthers most active offensive player on the day finishing with 11 shots including one that hit off the post and another off the cross bar.
Tied 1-1 at the half, Miller scored what proved to be the game winner in the 48th minute as she hit a low shot past a diving Gabby Klemp to beat the CSU keeper.
Kaci Schonert had the assist on that goal.
Schonert added a second assist in the 63rd minute as she had a cross from the right corner which Hawkins headed home for her sixth goal this year.
Hawkins seventh goal this season came in the 67th minute on an assist from
Kayla Stolfa. It was Hawkins third match this season with multiple goals as she leads the OVC in scoring.
Erin Morgan closed out the final 45 minutes in the goal for EIU making two saves. Vieth was credited with one save in her 45 minutes in the net. EIU finished with a 13-4 shots on goal advantage.
Klemp made six saves for CSU before giving way to Taylor Conroy who made two saves.
