MARTIN, Tenn. – Eastern Illinois women's soccer fell behind early before allowing two goals in a four minute span in the second half which sealed a 3-1 win by UT Martin in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both schools.

EIU fell to 2-7-1, 0-1 in the OVC.  The Panthers will play Sunday afternoon at Southeast Missouri.  UT Martin improved to 3-6, 1-0 in the OVC.

Lisa Schmieder scored the first of her two goals in the match in the 18th minute which staked UTM to a 1-0 halftime lead.  Schmieder took control of a ball that was misplayed in the defensive backfield and sent the first goal home from just inside the goal box.

Schmieder added what proved to be the game winner in the 55th minute as she tipped the ball over a charging EIU goalkeeper Maddie Lyon.  The assist was credited to Maggie Burkett who passed the ball to the attack point.

For EIU Lyon had seven saves as UTM had a 10-4 shots on goal advantage.  Makenzie Crawford made three saves in the win for the Skyhawks.

UT Martin put the game away four minutes after Schmieder's second goal as Sierra Franz chased down a goal kick by Crawford and finished the play in the 59th minute.

EIU was able to get on the board late as Carrie Caplin hit a free kick that bounced off the cross bar into the goal in the 80th minute.  Caplin was one of four EIU players with shots on goal.  Joining Caplin were Molly Hawkins, Kathleen MacKinnon and Emily Wolf.
