CHARLESTON, Ill. –
Molly Hawkins scored multiple goals for the second straight Friday as the Eastern Illinois Panthers were able to make that scoring stand up with a 3-1 win over IPFW at Lakeside Field on a hot and humid Friday afternoon.
EIU improved to 1-3-1 with the win and will play at Indiana State on Sunday. IPFW fell to 0-5.
Last week Hawkins scored two goals for the Panthers in a double overtime loss at Western Illinois. This week the senior scored just over three minutes into the second period as
Ali Carlson fed a pass into the box that Hawkins touched in for a goal.
Hawkins was a factor in the Panthers second goal seven minutes later as she took a deep pass from
Carrie Caplin and led
Hannah Miller towards the goal as Miller finished off the break with a goal in the 55th minute.
The Panthers scoring was capped in the 58th minute with Hawkins finishing off a header past IPFW starting goalkeeper Kiley Dunning.
Bianca Navejas served the ball into the box for Hawkins to connect.
EIU goalkeeper
Maddie Lyon turned away two good goal scoring chances by the Mastodons finishing with six total saves. IPFW was able to slip one past the freshman in the 79th minute as Brooke Bishir took a skip pass through the crease from Rachel Good to score.
EIU finished with ten shots on goal compared to seven for IPFW. Dunning recorded all seven saves for IPFW. Haley Lydon played the final 23 minutes in net for IPFW and did not face a shot on goal.
Miller, Hawkins and Navejas were credited for all ten EIU shots on goal.
