GAME 16Eastern Illinois continues play against Ohio Valley Conference East Division teams traveling to Belmont on Saturday afternoon. EIU is 1-2 in OVC play with all three games against East Division opponents. EIU lost at home to Tennessee State on Wednesday to drop to 4-11 overall. The Panthers went 6-0 against the OVC East last season and are 9-12 all-time in OVC cross divisional games since the league adopted the format in 2012-13. Belmont improved to 10-6 overall, 2-0 in the OVC with a road win on Wednesday night at SIU Edwardsville.
ANDERSON IN DOUBLE FIGURESTrae Anderson returned to double figures scoring 20 points on Wednesday night against Tennessee State. It was 12th game in double figures this season and the third time he has scored 20 or more in a game. Anderson's season high was 31 points at Marshall as part of the Global Sports Classic. The senior ranks 11th in the OVC in scoring at 14.6 points per game. In addition to leading the team in scoring, Anderson is the team leader in rebounds at 4.9 per game, steals with 18 and blocks with ten. He has one double-double this season in the home win over Northern Kentucky (19 pts, 12 reb).
JOHNSTON PASSING OUT ASSISTSCornell Johnston just missed a double-double for the third straight game as he finished with 15 points and nine assists. It was his third straight game with nine or more assists in OVC play as he ranks second in the league with 5.0 assists per game. In OVC action he is averaging 9.3 assists per contest. Johnston now has 231 career assists which ranks tied for 22nd on the EIU career list. He needs 236 to tie Charlie Thomas in 21st place and seven assists to tie Henry Domercant for 20th. Johnston is averaging 13.7 points per game in OVC play and 10.7 points per game for the season.
