Women's Soccer Closes Out Home Schedule

Panthers host Murray State on Friday; Austin Peay on Sunday

ONE GOAL DIFFERENCE:  Eastern Illinois played its sixth straight match last Sunday with one goal being the difference for the sixth straight contest.  EIU was on the losing end of Sunday's meeting at Morehead State losing 1-0 on an own goal.  In fact all six of those consecutive matches have been decided by a 1-0 tally.  EIU is 2-4 in those matches with shutout wins over Marian University and UT Martin. 

FINAL HOME MATCHES:  Eastern Illinois will play its final two home matches of the season this weekend as the Panthers host Murray State and Austin Peay.  EIU is 3-4 at home this year including winning its lone OVC contest at home over UT Martin.  The other two home victories are over Marian University and Northern Iowa.   EIU will close out the regular season with three OVC matches of the road.

POINTS LEADER:  Junior Emma Scaro continues to lead Eastern Illinois in points as she has four points this season.  Scaro is the team leader with two assists and has one goal.  Henar UrteagaSarah DeWolf and Kayla Stolfa are all tied for second on the team with three points.  Each player has scored one goal with one assist.

BALANCE ON GOALS: Eastern Illinois has been balanced in scoring this season with eight different players scoring a goal this year.  Four players have knocked home game winners with Emma Scaro,Kathleen MacKinnonRachel Pappas and Hannah Heinz all finding the back of the net during an EIU victory.
 
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Eastern Illinois continues to go through a youth movement on the field.  This season the Panthers have had 16 underclassmen see playing time on the field.  Of those 16 players, nine are true freshmen.  EIU currently has two seniors that have seen significant playing time this season with forwardKathleen MacKinnon and defender Emily Wolf
 
CLOSE TO THE RECORD BOOK: Freshman goalkeeper Sara Teteak is on the verge of cracking the Eastern Illinois single season top ten for several categories as the Panthers hit the home stretch of their regular season.  Teteak currently has 83 saves and needs one more to move into a tie for 10th on the single season list.  She has three shutouts this season and needs one more to move into a tie for 10th on that list.  She has started all 13 matches this season and if she starts both this weekend she will move into a tie for 10th on the single season matches started list.

SERIES RECORD: Eastern Illinois and Murray State will meet on Friday afternoon in the 19th meeting between the two schools.  EIU leads the all-time series 8-6-4 but the Racers have won two straight including a 4-0 victory last year in Murray.  On Sunday afternoon EIU and Austin Peay will meet for the 15th time in their series history on the pitch.  EIU holds a 7-5-2 all-time series edge.  The Governors won last year in Clarksville, 3-0.

HEAD COACH: Kiki Lara is in his first season as the EIU women's soccer head coach.  Lara was hired as the men's soccer head coach in 2015 and was promoted to director of soccer overseeing both programs in the spring of 2016.  Lara is a 2003 graduate of Incarnate Word and played in the USL First Division for five seasons.  He came to EIU following a stint as the assistant men's soccer coach at Dayton.
