CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois closed out the home portion of its 2016 women's soccer schedule picking up a 1-0 win over Austin Peay on Sunday afternoon. The game was played with a slight drizzle all afternoon as heavy rain moved into the area on Sunday morning.
The Panthers goal was scored in the 31st minute as
Malorie Henderlong sent a cross towards the goal that deflected off of Austin Peay goalkeeper Lindsey Todd. The ball ricocheted off the cross bar onto the foot of
Emma Scaro who put the ball away for her second goal of the season.
The goal was the first for the Panthers since they beat UT Martin, 1-0 in overtime back on Sept. 25.
Sara Teteak made four saves to pick up her fourth shutout victory this season.
Austin Peay had a total of 13 shots but a good defensive effort in the EIU back line resulted in five blocks on Governors shots.
The Panthers back line was led by
Lindsey Carlson,
Emily Wolf,
Carrie Caplin and
Ali Carlson with all four players logging all 90 minutes in the match.
Kirstin Robertson had four of the APSU shots but only one on goal.
EIU improved to 5-10 overall, 2-5 in the OVC. APSU fell to 8-6-2, 3-2-2 in the OVC
