GAME 10
Eastern Illinois will face Western Illinois for the second time this season as the two schools wrap up their home-and-home series Saturday in Macomb. The two schools are revitalizing the former traveling trophy in the series, the "Old Railsplitter Ax", that was used in the late 1970's during EIU's run near the top of the NCAA Division II ranks. WIU won two games last year in the renewed traveling trophy series. EIU ended a five game losing streak in the series on Nov. 19 when they won 73-64. Five EIU players scored in double figures in that game led by
Demetrius McReynolds with 21. EIU lost on the road on Wednesday at Northern Kentucky falling to 5-4 this season. WIU is 2-6 after a loss to Chicago State last Saturday.
DAMA ON THE RISE
Muusa Dama continues to attack the rim with high percentage shots and dunks as he has scored in double figures in three of the last four games. Dama was 6-of-9 from the floor for the second time in the last three games on Wednesday at Northern Kentucky finishing with 13 points. He is now shooting 58.2 percent from the floor which ranks sixth in the OVC. In the last four games Dama has shot 65.6 percent from the floor averaging 11.8 points per game.
JOHNSTON CLIMBS UP EIU 3-POINTERS LIST
Cornell Johnston drained five 3-pointers on Wednesday night at Northern Kentucky as the junior guard moved into a tie for 8th on the Panthers career 3-pointers made list with Gerald Jones at 143. Johnston needs 22 3-pointers for the next person on the list, former All-OVC guard Tyler Laser. Johnston has enjoyed playing away from Lantz Arena this season averaging 16.8 points and 5 assists per game on the road. He is shooting 51.2 percent from the floor and 51.7 percent on 3-pointers in four road contests.
