COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Eastern Illinois softball dropped both games to Tennessee Tech Saturday afternoon falling to the Golden Eagles 5-1 in the first game of the doubleheader. It was a much tighter contest in the late game, but TTU outlasted the Panthers to record a 1-0 win.

Both Jessica Wireman and Michelle Rogers recorded three strikeouts a piece in their respective starts as each pitcher recorded losses on the mound.

Kayla Bear, Katie Watson, and Ashlynne Paul each recorded two hits on the day.

The Golden Eagles broke open the scoring in the first game Saturday afternoon in the bottom of the second inning. TTU's Alyssa Richards opened the inning with a solo home run to right field to give Tennessee Tech the 1-0 lead.

The Panthers tied the game up in the top of the fifth inning as Paul hit a lead-off single up the middle. Jennette Isaac came in to pinch run advancing to second off a sacrifice bunt from Mady Poulter. Bear then singled to bring Isaac around to third base. Bear opened the door for Isaac to score successfully stealing second base allowing Isaac to cross home plate on the throw and tie the game 1-1.

Tennessee Tech reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the fifth as three straight singles brought TTU's Amity Brown around to score from second base. The Golden Eagles added one more run in the next at bat as Jessie Lowery recorded the RBI on an infield groundout to make the score 3-1.

TTU would add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth as Wireman walked two of the first three batters to load the bases. An RBI single from Tennessee Tech's Olivia Bennett followed by a sacrifice fly from Bayli Cruse would bring the game to its final score of 5-1.

Both Paul and Bear finished game one going 2-for-3 at the plate as they combined for four of EIU's five hits in the game.

The second game was a much more defensive affair between the two teams as Rogers and Hannah Weaver battled on the mound.

The Golden Eagles scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the second inning as Rogers walked the first batter. TTU's Brown came in to pinch run eventually advancing to third base due to a single from Sabrie Neeb. Bennett brought Brown around to score on the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly to right field to put Tennessee Tech up 1-0.

That would prove to be all it would take as neither team could get another run across home plate. Rogers recorded the loss with 3 strikeouts across six innings of work and only giving up three hits.

Watson, Kylie Bennett, and Paul each recorded a hit in the game, with Bennett hitting a double to center field to open the second inning.
